Our Play Hub Workshops
Workshop Description
Play-based learning is widely regarded as a powerful and essential approach in the early years of learning and beyond. The acceptance of this approach is supported by the considerable brain-based research on the benefits of a play-based education, particularly in an age when there are many temptations towards a screen-based childhood.
These workshops will explore practical ways to integrate or develop play-based learning into your setting, looking at environment, assessment and the rise of edtech. Suitable for beginners and experienced play-based learners we explore play for learners of all ages and how we cultivate a playful mindset to combat the paradox of play in education.
Workshop Description
Many schools around the world have multi-lingual classrooms and the challenge is how to best serve a range of learners. Play-based learning creates a context where language is learnt naturally and without pressure. Children in role play will communicate to continue the game and their enjoyment of the play will motivate them to experiment and take linguistic risks they might otherwise shy away from.
Join this workshop to explore practical strategies for our multi-lingual classrooms and schools!
Workshop Description
The unique value of theatre has been acknowledged for hundreds of years. Around the globe, theatre takes on a diversity of roles, from entertainment to therapy, storytelling to social justice exploration. This has given theatre a powerful community position as a timeless and transformative tool for learning. In ancient Greece, theatre was how people learnt about themselves and each other. They developed empathy and understanding to support key decisions in their communities. So how can we apply this in our classrooms?
Children naturally gravitate towards role play, imagination and stories. It is how they navigate and make sense of the world around them and who they are. By understanding theatrical frameworks educators are enabled to extend, expand and deepen the children’s curiosity and capacity for empathy. This workshop will explore practical ways to include theatrical frameworks by reimagining the education system as one huge theatre workshop. What would happen if we just played theatre?
